Roman Legacy at the International Lughnasad Festival
On July 31, 2026, the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Brno, presented the ROMAN LEGACY project at the 20th International Festival of Celtic Culture Lughnasad in Nasavrky near Chrudim. The project was presented through the information stand of the Mušov Visitor Center – Gateway to the Roman Empire and a professional and interactive program focused on the Roman cultural heritage in the Danube Region. The program included lectures “The World of Luxury” dedicated to Germanic jewelry and Roman buckles and creative activities for children and adults, such as the production of buckles and seals. The presentation brought to light the importance of South Moravia in Roman times and contacts between the Romans, Celts and Germanic peoples. Participation in the festival supported the promotion of the project outside the partner’s own events and made it possible to reach a large audience interested in archaeology, history and cultural heritage.
Second meeting of the Roman Legacy project partners
On January 14, 2026, the second partner meeting of the ROMAN LEGACY project under the Interreg Danube Region program took place via videoconference. The partners evaluated the progress of the project to date, aligned strategies for the coming period, and coordinated further joint activities. The discussion also focused on the preparation of interpretive and presentation outputs and the planning of upcoming professional and public events.
National meeting with project partners
On 14 November 2025, the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Brno, v. v. i., together with its national strategic partners—the South Moravian Region and the Municipality of Pasohlávky—will organise the first meeting of project participants and interested stakeholders (a stakeholder meeting and workshop). The meeting will introduce the project “Exploring the Roman Legacy: Creation of a Theme Region and Cultural Route along the Roman Danube Limes to Empower the Socio-Economic Development of Shared European Heritage” (Interreg Danube Region). The programme will present the objectives, tools, and implementation timetable of the individual project activities, with the main emphasis placed on joint discussion of interests and opportunities for the involvement of participating sites and institutions.
Kick-off meeting of the Roman Legacy project
From April 28 to 30, 2025, the official kick-off meeting of the Interreg Danube Region project ROMAN LEGACY was held at the University for Continuing Education Krems (Universität für Weiterbildung Krems). The event was organized by the Center for Cultural Property Protection (Zentrum für Kulturgüterschutz), which also serves as the project’s lead partner. The three-year ROMAN LEGACY project aims to create a cultural theme region and a European cultural route along the Roman Danube Limes. This initiative seeks to highlight shared European heritage and contribute to the socio-economic development of the Danube region. The project partnership consists of 19 full partners from ten Danube countries and 35 strategic associated partners.
