The book tells the story of the Mohelnice gravel pit research through period visual documentation – the first extensive archaeological research in Czechoslovakia, focused primarily on the period of the first farmers. It was here that archaeologists first discovered the floor plans of long Neolithic houses and explored an Early Neolithic well. The research was led in the 1950s to 1970s by Rudolf Tichý from the Institute of Archaeology of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. In the early years, amateur archaeologists connected to the Mohelnice municipal museum – Josef Horký and Vladimír Kapl – also significantly participated in the research. Originally, rescue excavation gradually grew into systematic research lasting a total of thirteen field seasons. During this time, archaeologists explored almost four hectares and uncovered 337 features dating to the Neolithic, Eneolithic, Bronze Age, La Tène, and Roman periods.
