Cross-border meeting in the Interreg Austria–Czechia project

On Thursday, March 26, 2026, a cross-border meeting of experts was held at Mikulov Castle, an event focused on networking as part of the Roman Trails project (Interreg Austria–Czechia). The meeting was attended by both project partners and regional stakeholders. The program was organized by the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Brno, in cooperation with the University for Continuing Learning in Krems.

The aim of the meeting was to present the project’s key outputs through expert presentations. Balázs Komoróczy (ARUB) presented the collection and evaluation of data from a recent questionnaire survey focused on tourism related to the discovery of Roman heritage in South Moravia and the Austrian Weinviertel region. Marek Vlach (ARUB) then provided a more detailed description of the ongoing digitization work, the integration of modern technologies into cultural presentation, and the strategic planning of six potential Roman trails. Finally, Pavla Růžičková (ARUB) presented possibilities for incorporating interactive and engaging approaches into cultural heritage mediation.

The expert program was then complemented by Mona Baumgarten, a cultural heritage interpreter, who presented a conceptual framework for the upcoming pilot project titled “Romans Up Close.”

The meeting’s program thus offered participants a comprehensive overview of how to innovatively preserve, digitize, and promote the shared Roman heritage of the cross-border region.
